Turns out new #macOS doesn't like #ExternalDisplays: it just won't find/recognize them at all, full stop. Googled for solutions, some suggested include:
* downgrade to an old macOS that works;
* use Linux.
I really can't. @Apple how the actual fuck is this possible?
