People with #FASD struggle with dysmaturity which is the inability to act their chronological age
In other areas, people with FASD can have a maturity beyond their years. This inconsistency actually creates frustration for teachers & caregivers by creating a false expectation #FASDStrongerTogether
People with #FASD have struggles not only with time management but their brains can have trouble experiencing the passing of time
For example, you say "be back in 10 minutes" they may be back in 40 minutes
OR
You say "We'll meet in 45 minutes" & they'll return in 15 minutes #FASDStrongerTogether
Due to the effects of pre natal alcohol, people with #FASD have issues with memorizing, organizing & recalling information.
With the proper support system in place, they can overcome these obstacles and thrive! #FASDStrongerTogether
Today is #FASDAwarenessDay which occurs every year on September 9th
September 9th was selected as the day because it was the 9th day of the 9th month celebrating an alcohol free pregnancy
The day is celebrated by wearing red, specifically red shoes #FASDStrongerTogether
Probably the biggest brain domain affected by #FASD is Executive Functioning, the mental processes that help you apply the knowledge you attain to meet your goals
These memes do a great job explaining how debilitating the lack of executive functioning is to a person with FASD #FASDStrongerTogether
One brain domain where people on the #FASD spectrum struggle with is sensory issues. These include:
-Overstimulation(Too much noise, light, tactile)
-Under stimulation (sensory seeking behaviours)
-sleeping difficulty (affects 85% of the FASD spectrum)
-Pain tolerance

So what exactly is #FASD?
The official definition from @CanFASD :
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a lifelong disability that affects people who were exposed to alcohol in the womb
Seems simple enough but it is WAYYYYYY more complex than that.
