This week's #ThrowbackThursday takes us back to Milan, where more than 2,000 microbiologists 🦠 from 95 countries gathered 👥 under one roof for four dynamic days of collaboration 🤝 and exchange 💡. buff.ly/we8TWjD

Already two weeks ago @femsmicro.org #FEMS2025 in Milan, where I had the chance to both present my research and chair a session. Covered key topics in microbiome research, bioinformatics, and microbial dynamics. Solid talks, good discussions, connected with brilliant colleagues
It was an honour and a pleasure to join the panel “Microbes in a Plastic World: Challenges and Opportunities” in #FEMS2025
You can find the summary of the panel:

Had an amazing time at #FEMS2025 last week, where I presented our latest findings on collateral sensitivity mediated by beta-lactamases ☯️ Big thanks to everyone who came by! So proud of my colleagues for their brilliant talks and posters ✨
I could go back to my home from #FEMS2025 in Milano safely.
It was a great time and opportunities to present my research and to make friends and connections 🥰
I recommend to join FEMS to Japanese biologists, especially early career.
I'll attend next #FEMS2027 !!
It’s been a great week at the #FEMS2025. Going back with a notebook filled with new ideas, great suggestions and made new contacts.

That's a wrap on #FEMS2025 in beautiful Milan! The biggest thanks to @kimingeneva.bsky.social for the invitation to co-chair & present in the very cool Microbial Dark Matter session with 3 other wonderful speakers! I loved all the great talks/posters & hope to return to @femsmicro.org in 2027 🤗🦠🧫

A picture of yours truly giving a talk on combining phenogenomic and microbial ecology approaches between antagonists native to the apple flower #microbiome and the fire blight pathogen Erwinia amylovora
The description of the Plant-microbe interactions symposium chaired by Ines Mandic-Mulec
The list of talks of the symposium, from the effects of polyploidisation and intensification of wheat on thr microbiome, to phenogenomics of the apple microbiome, to the effect of lactonases on apple pathogens, to biostimulant consortia from mangrove root, to biostimulation of spirulina on space agriculture, to olive microbiome, to quantification of plant growth promoting bacteria

The Plant-Microbe Interactions symposium at #FEMS2025 was a blast! From domestication, to #biocontrol, to #biostimulation and even agriculture in space!
I had such interesting discussions afterwards till exhaustion!
Thanks to Ines Mandic-Mulec for chairing!

It was great to present our results at #FEMS2025 #SuperSalmo

Super proud of the lab for their outstanding presentations at #FEMS2025 in Milano!
Science is better when you work with such a stellar team!🚀✨

our time capsule with human paper chain on the front and handicraft butterfly on the inner lid. a paper chain with interlinked words including care and justice hangs out one side. in the centre, different actors including senior management and the student body made of pipe cleaners are alongside messages we are sending to them, all within a "donut" representing sustainable planetary boundaries. also in the capsule is a caterpillar of modelling clay representing potential that must be nurtured

a #FEMS2025 highlight for me has definitely been creating a time capsule holding our hopes for the future of our universities
we share the conviction that our institutions can change over the next 20 years and turn to embody a vision of radical love, care, compassion and community... 1/2
Thank you for 4 exciting days full of fruitful and constructive discussions at the #FEMS2025 😊
Hope to see you all in Ljubljana for the FEMS MICRO in 2027!
It was such a pleasure to speak about #biofilms and #Listeria monocytogenes in a session with Martin Wagner, Valentina Trinetta, Claudia Guldimann, and Pierluigi di Ciccio at #FEMS2025 in Milan!

I've had the most fabulous few days at #FEMS2025! Made so many lovely friends, expanded my networks and learned so much from everyone. Hope to see you all in Ljubljana in 2027! #microsky
I had to leave #FEMS2025 before the closing ceremony but I left on a high note after finding out that I received the @femsmicro.org Microbiology Ecology Poster Prize, awarded by Max Häggblom!
The final day of #FEMS2025 is done! Great opening session on extremophiles, an interesting discussion of using microbes as forensic tools and I've left with plenty of microbe nerds to bother the next time I'm in Europe 🦠🤓 Ciao Milano!
Proud of the talk of Iván Linares at the #FEMS2025 on hospital-associated microbiomes and its role on pathogens persistance 🦠 @femsmicro.org
Today at #FEMS2025 my PhD student Dafne Porcel Sanchis presented a flash talk about the new #nudibranch symbionts
#microsky 🦠🧫🧪🧬🖥 @i2sysbio.es
Closing keynote by Eran Elinava🌙🦠 at #FEMS2025
Eran explained why circadian rhythms matters——Industrial evolution allow us disrupt day-night cycles which highly boost human productivity; we can work night shifts and fly over time zones
It’s time to unlock the power of microbe clock 🌱🕒 #FEMS2025

Until next time, #FEMS2025! 🙌 It was great to connect with our members and the microbiology community. If you didn’t get a chance to speak to us, you can learn more about @microbiologysociety.org and the benefits you get as a member.
Gregoire Michoud presented his work about Charting the complexity of the global glacier-fed stream microbiome during the Session “Ecology of biofilms”.
#FEMS2025 @femsmicro.org
Haitao Wang presented his project on The methane-cycling microbiome in intact and degraded permafrost soils of the pan-Arctic during the session “FEMS Microbiology Ecology: Microbial dynamics in a changing world”.
#FEMS2025 @femsmicro.org
What a fantastic conference! Great to present my work on soil viral responses to simulated wildfire at #FEMS2025 So many interesting talks and posters.
Luke Hillary discussed his project on Fire severity impacts DNA and RNA viral communities in fire-adapted shrubland soil wildfire pyrocosms during the Session “FEMS Microbiology Ecology: Microbial dynamics in a changing world”.
