Aerith had cried at the Temple, when they found the Turk bleeding out on the floor and all but left him for dead. Cloud never had the chance to ask her why, why he had meant so much to her. He certainly couldn't ask the Turk now, as he has it on good authority that it's only the presence of his own colleagues they've made a tentative peace with that stops him ripping the ex-SOLDIER limb from limb. All these years later, Tseng is the only one who never forgave him. And maybe he doesn't deserve it. He did take her away after all. He took her away, and he failed her.

He watches the Turk fight and he wants to take those blows, wants to feel that pain, wants to suffer at the other man's hands and call it penance. He wants to be beneath him, taken by him, CONSUMED by him, just to find that last shred of her left within. He wants to be forgiven, probably. More than that, he wants to be absolved. "What did you mean to her?" he wants to ask, "What did she mean to you?" And he would look for her in him.

Someone a long time ago mentioned Cloud and Tseng, and I completely forgot I wrote this in response.
