Based on historical research, it was Donald Trump's grandfather, Friedrich (Frederick) Trump, not Donald Trump himself, who operated businesses associated with prostitution in the Pacific Northwest during the late 19th century. After arriving in Seattle in 1891, Friedrich purchased a restaurant called the "Poodle Dog" at 208 Washington Street in the Pioneer Square neighborhood, renaming it the "Dairy Restaurant". Operating from approximately 1891 to early 1893, this establishment was located in a notorious "red-light" district, and, according to biographer Gwenda Blair, it offered "private rooms for ladies," a common euphemism at the time for services involving female companionship and prostitution. Friedrich later expanded this business model to include a hotel in the mining town of Monte Cristo (c. 1894–1897) and a restaurant/hotel in Bennett, British Columbia (1897–1899), before returning to Germany with his fortune.
