I caught my father's reflection in the mirror today. I've found I look more and more like him as I get older, but this morning was really striking, as I almost felt like he was looking back at me through my eyes. This made me smile, but also feel a bit melancholy, as I miss him. I've fond memories of sitting in his backyard in St Augustine, Florida, late into the evening, listening to his old jazz records and whatever odd miscellany I'd brought to the table that night. Talking was never our forte, but those shared silences set to music spoke to the strange comfort we'd established, thoughts unsaid. So with something I think my dad would have enjoyed, comfort zone aside, here's some more (US) morning mellow.
