I spent a charming afternoon with the delightful #mice at #FairfaxHouse in #York. Next time you visit this fascinating Georgian house #museum, be sure to look out for them. The mice are hiding in plain sight and getting up to all sorts of mischief in their elegant #18thcentury ensembles.
It was magical to explore #FairfaxHouse at twilight this evening during their special York #GhostWeek event: #FortunaFatum.

Today I got my bearings in #Georgian York because, let’s be honest, I spend most of my time in the #18thcentury. This entailed walking in the footsteps of my new obsession, #AnnFairfax. These photos are of #FairfaxHouse, which Ann’s father gave her in trust when she was 38 (remarkable for the 1760s)
I miss this guy: Nathaniel Piggott - an absolute bastard - who I played for an exhibition at #FairfaxHouse in #York from the mighty pen of @paulbirchmakes.bsky.social
Wallpaper from Fairfax House, mid-C18th building in York. Recreated from a fragment. An improbably coloured bird with a polka-dot blue tail sits on an equally unlikely branch with hollyhock-type open flowers, nust and blossom.
Wallpaper showing, on the left, a brightly coloured butterfly on a coral bamboo stem; behind, a large passion-flower (?) in cream, bronze and yellow, all against a gold back-ground. Photo taken in The Ivy, York.
#Wallpapers. One #C18th in York's stunning #FairfaxHouse, one in the #C21st ladies' loos of #TheIvy. Not quite 'plus ça change...' but the line of descent is there.
Wavy-edged cards for 32 English monarchs, which fit together to make a rectangular whole.
An #C18th 'jigsaw' — #FairfaxHouse, atmospherically and delightfully restored by #YorkCivicTrust.
Day out in #York yesterday. Intended to take a tour of #FairfaxHouse but it was closed. Had booked for the #VanGogh immersive experience: tech problems so they couldn't run until lunchtime, but I saw it eventually. In the meantime I took a tour of #York Minster
