Good News about #Girri in Orange NSW Australia
Here is Girri in her roost tree. They also watched her fly from tree to tree. The parents didn't harass them at all, which was unusual.

I don't normally publish graphic displays of raptors eating, but thought Diamond's master class in prey prep for chick Girri was interesting/educational. For raptor lovers with inquiring minds about #birdsofprey.

Diamond fed BOTH Girri AND Gimbir full meals! I have seen mates feed each other, but never an entire meal. I think both Girri & Gimbir were perplexed (I sure was)! Only Diamond can explain… and she’s not talking.

Girri couldn't get enough of Diamond during this long visit. She got as close as she possibly could, nibbled Di's talons and her feathers, and took a little nap with her. A sweet scene between mother and daughter.

There's something incredibly addictive about watching birds sleep ~ especially big, fluffy falcon chicks. Girri took her adorable slumber fest to new heights. Bonus: dancing around the egg & big wingers.

🪽 Girri Grabs Whole Prey from Diamond 🍗 Mantles, Tries to Self-Feed🍽️
This huge chick completed another milestone when she grabbed prey from her mum & tried to self feed. Diamond let her struggle for 12 minutes before taking over.

3.5 week old Girri is schooling her year-old dad on the finer points of feeding. It was a heartwarming scene between this young dad and his big girl.

Girri's in a food coma 🥱 Diamond keeps feeding her anyway. Diamond is a clean-plate-club mum, so continues pushing scraps till they're gone. In the end, Girri finally got her kip.

We blinked and suddenly Girri was a big, fluffy chick. She is clomping around the nest box on her unwieldy clown feet, growing pin feathers, exercising her wings, *and* she scaled the Cilla Stones for the first time.

12-day old Girri likes to be under a parent, where it's nice and warm. Dad Gimbir, however, hasn't yet learned how to brood. Girri's efforts to wedge under Gimbir hasn’t worked, but a side-by-side arrangement has been achieved.

Gimbir brings 3 starlings in 9 minutes!😳 Chick Gets First Meal!🐥
Gimbir showed his paternal chops, delivering a huge bounty to the nest for the 17-hour-old chick and Diamond. Wonder if Diamond was impressed as we were.

Gimbir met his very first chick. He seemed somewhat perplexed to see a fluff ball where there used to be an egg. And while he hasn’t yet learned the subtleties of fatherhood – or even the not-so-subtleties – he will do so in time.

Diamond increased moving and shaking of the eggs as she likely detected a pip and heard at least one chick. Chick #1 went from pip to hatch in 7 hours, as shown in the video!

Gimbir made an early wake-up visit, but didn't heed Diamond's breakfast order. He came through later, but dashed out. Breakfast was delayed again until he returned to incubate. Learning slowly.

Diamond laid her and Gimbir's second egg 59-1/2 hours after the first. Her typical laying interval is between 50 and 60 hours. Congrats, Diamond and Gimbir!

Upon meeting his and Diamond’s first egg, Gimbir did a good amount of nibbling. No obvious harm done. Gimbir has performed well otherwise, so keeping high hopes for his paternal capabilities.

Diamond lays 1st egg of 2025. After Xavier's disappearance and Gimbir's arrival soon thereafter, the breeding season was in question. Today's egg laying answered some questions.

Gimbir nibbled leftovers of a silver gull during a long bonding session with Diamond. It seemed a little rude until Diamond ultimately joined in the nibbling. A strange & entertaining episode!

Diamond & Gimbir pair-bonded 2x & mated 3x all before 11 a.m. Only time will tell if their amorous activities have the desired effect, but it’s evident that young Gimbir’s reproductive instinct is fully functional. #raptors

Diamond & Gimbir continue their exuberant courtship. While bonding, he got cornered. When he saw an opening, he burst from the nest. Later, he brought prey, but Diamond was out. Re-gift later, maybe.

Gimbir brought prey that was nearly as big as him. Diamond had clearly already eaten, but was grateful, nonetheless, and will enjoy later. Gimbir has proven himself to be quite a skilled hunter.
