A large male Elk, shown in profile, sniffs the air to ascertain if any nearby does (females) are ready for mating. The Elk has a huge rack of antlers that, with his head tilted backwards, appears to be about 2/3rds the length of his body. The grasses in which the Elk is standing are dry and brown while the background vegetation shows yellow leaves, indicating an Autumn scene.

It's much too early for #Elk #rut in #Colorado, but in planning ahead for my 🍂 #September #adventures, I was reminded of this #bull.
