It has a glossy brown-black head, chest, and chin, with a flash of purple-green iridescence on the face and breast. Its back is greyish brown, contrasting with its white underparts which are barred with black on the flanks and rump. This little bird also has a short black tail and a stubby bill that's black and pale gray.
