#FACT: The Minimum Wage was ALWAYS supposed to be a living wage.
From #FDR:
“It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country.
so the real culprit of the 1936 "double dip" was austerity, not the new deal.

The Navy's Gay Sting That Almost Derailed a President’s Career #FDR #FranklinRoosevelt #GaySex #America
Among infectious diseases, polio was the leading cause of death for children in the U.S. and around the world. Another reason: This announcement was made in an auditorium filled with people, microphones, news cameras and the technology necessary to send the story to media outlets almost everywhere.
The announcement that the polio vaccine was safe and effective came 10 years - to the day - after the death of the most well-known person crippled by polio: former U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
The front page of the New York Times on April 13, 1955 - the day after Jonas Salk's polio vaccine was declared "safe and effective." The headline - in a large point size and all caps - reads: SALK POLIO VACCINE PROVES SUCCESS; MILLIONS WILL BE IMMUNIZED SOON; CITY SCHOOLS BEGIN SHOTS APRIL 25
On this day in 1955, researchers concluded the third and final test of Jonas Salk’s polio vaccine and announced that it was “safe and effective.”
Those three words set off global jubilation, for two main reasons:

A photograph of a watercolor painting depiction of President Franklin D. Roosevelt (standing with the aid of crutches) with a local family atop Pine Mountain in Georgia at Dowdell's Knob, his favorite scenic overlook where he had a brick BBQ installed for hosting. Here he has used his 1930s era Ford specially designed for him with hand controls to take a farming family up to show his experimental farming community below in Pine Mountain Valley, GA.
A zoomed in picture of Mr. Roosevelt on crutches due to his polio along with his Scottie dog, "Fala", and a local farmer qith hat in hand as the president talks.
The rest of the family stands apart from dad and the president as the youngest stares back at the fancy car and holds a rag doll.
