This garden, just off the Abbey's Little Cloister, is set in the ruins of the 12th-century St Catherine's chapel. Important political and religious gatherings were held in the chapel, and it was here in 1267 that Henry III swore on the Gospels to uphold Magna Carta.

My starter for #Februinary. A lichen covered ruin in Trujillo, #Extremadura, SW Spain. Just look at that beautiful carved window!

A final post for #Februinary. The Roman town of #Cáparra, in the province of Lusitania, or present-day #Extremadura. Occupied for around 700 years, it declined after the Moorish conquest of Spain in the 8th century. First excavated in 1929, it covered an area of around 15-16 ha.

Granadilla, #Extremadura. In 1955 people were ordered to leave their homes because of flood risk from the newly built reservoir. It was abandoned for years, but little by little a few of the buildings are being restored, and it's now used for training rural skills.

El Antiguo Lavadero, or old wash house in #Trujillo, #Extremadura, SW Spain. Used from late 19th to early 20th century, it has a spring fed pond. Women would take their laundry here and use one of the dozens of granite tubs to clean their clothes.

The Ermita de Santa Ana, #Trujillo, #Extremadura, SW Spain.
Built in 1731 on the instructions of Francisco Laso de la Vega, Bishop of Plasencia. Currently neglected, and the victim of arson, graffiti, vandalism, and weathering. 😢😢

I think #Whitby Abbey is a good contender for #Februinary...

Having just looked through my pics from a trip there, I think I'm going to adopt #Melrose Abbey as my Favourite Ruin in Scotland. It's so photogenically complex.
