Happy #FeralTuesday, Reds! Every week, we take Tuesday to extra celebrate the community cats (also known as stray or feral cats) who live outdoors among us.

Reds is one of our Atlantic City Boardwalk Cats. He likes to prove it by hanging out near our signs! 😸

#FeralTuesday #TNR Tip: TNR stands for Trap-Neuter-RETURN, not Trap-Neuter-RELEASE!

Community cats should always be RETURNED to the outdoor home where they were trapped, not RELEASED anywhere outdoors. They're very bonded to their territories and their feline friends and family!

Trap-Neuter-Return (#TNR) is the ONLY humane and effective approach to community cats, or unowned cats who live outdoors. And though TNR is mainstream in the U.S., this message is just as important as ever.

It's getting hot out there! Here are tips to help community cats stay hydrated:

💧Use deeper bowls to prevent water from evaporating fast
💧Add ice cubes
💧 Freeze water in the bowl entirely and let it thaw
💧 Check back and refill water

Happy #FeralTuesday! 🐾

What is Feral Tuesday? It's our weekly celebration of community cats the world over and the people who care and advocate for them (though, really, that's every day for us)! It's also a day we dedicate to sharing information and tips on how to best help community cats.

#FeralTuesday kitten tip:

If you find kittens outdoors and don't see their mother cat with them, that doesn't mean she isn't there! Wait several hours, or even a day, to see if mom returns. Watch from a hidden spot or from inside so you don’t scare her away.

Community cats live all around the world, and the Alley Cat Allies team has a way of finding them even off the clock! One of our team members had the privilege of meeting this beautiful cat while on a trip in Lisbon, Portugal.

Where in the world have you met community cats?

Back to basics on #FeralTuesday: What's a community cat?

Community cats are unowned cats who live outdoors! They are generally not socialized to people, and are instead at home outside with their feline families.

A #FeralTuesday #TNR tip:

Every community cat location—whether a college campus, warehouse, farm, alley, small business parking lot, or other space—will have unique elements to consider when doing TNR...

Here's a critical #TNR step to protect community cats:

MICROCHIP community cats during the TNR process and register the microchip with the information of the cats’ caregiver or the group that carried out TNR.

Of course we paid Boardwalk Cat Mikey a visit on the first #FeralTuesday of 2025 (we do every day)!

It's chilly in Atlantic City, but Mikey has nice, warm outdoor shelters to curl up in with his colony members.
