#FilamentFriday has me trying to figure out what filament color to use for a new set of buildings. So, as one does, I went to Amazon to see what filaments are on sale. For inspo.
There's an Elegoo-branded set of sparkle filaments that looks IDENTICAL to the Bambu-branded set that I got last year....

#FilamentFriday thoughts are really about Saturday. I can't march due to health issues. My role must be that of a supporter, a cheerleader, a cleric, a bard. So I shall print things that will hopefully bring joy to others, so that when they take a break they can also recharge for another round.

Start of the #FilamentFriday playlist, Carly Simon's 3D printing song.
Recalibration
Re-cal-i-bray-ya-tion
It's making me wait
(it's soooo slooooow)
It's keeping me way-ya-ya-iting....

#3dprinted on #FilamentFriday, stuff I did not expect to print when I bought the silk copper filament:
Copper pipes for tabletop miniature games.

#FilamentFriday and I'm test-printing some tabletop game scenery tiles.
"Silver" filament is *sometimes* metallic, depending on brand! Thus it took 9 tries to figure out optimum settings for these.
2 brands of filament, 3 layer heights, ~80min per tile.

#FilamentFriday has me sad-laughing at a big filament company's sale this month.
Their deep discount prices are finally in my per-roll budget.
However, it's 6ish weeks after other companies' sales, when a lot of folks stocked up and blew thru multiple months of filament budgets because tariffs.

#FilamentFriday is checking your filament levels at 2am and thinking "hmmm, might not have enough on that spool, better chuck another one in the dryer" -- followed by taking the new spool out of its vacuum pack and opening the dryer to find that You Had The Same Thought Yesterday.

#FilamentFriday had me run out of red with no backup prepped. First time I have put a roll into the AMS without drying it first.
In the ten minutes between then and now, the print finished. 🙃

#FilamentFriday has me contemplating marketing copy vs. design for #3Dprinted scenery pieces for tabletop games.
Marketing copy: grimdark gladiator pits
STL design: Roman a la Art Nouveau
The fighting pit is shaped like a bundt cake...
and needs 3.5 kilos to print at 3% crosshatch infill.

#FilamentFriday has me experimenting with height range modifiers and dialing in filament flow ratios. Bambu matte black software default flow ratio: 0.98. My system flow ratio: 1.06. Meanwhile, gold Sunlu PLA+ looks wonderful at its software default flow ratio.
#3Dprinting fun stuff with these.

So happy with my attempt at 3D printing two different coloured filaments in one.
And our furry friend is very happy with his new mortarboard all ready for graduations to being.

#FilamentFriday this week has irony. Satisfaction in using up the last of a filament that I didn't particularly like. Chagrin on having spent a bunch of time on flow calibration and then printing the rest of the roll on things where that didn't really matter.
OTOH: Yay for learning things!

#FilamentFriday filament shopping. Again. Evidently filament is like any other art supply and the dragon genes have kicked in. Today: The printer needs a new Z belt. I need a yellow PLA for a project. Four web sites later, there are Sales and I still can't decide which other filaments I want....

Not much #3Dprinting happening on this #FilamentFriday.
I need to literally put the machine on its back to tighten the Z-belt. Lots of not fun.
Contemplating whether I want to grab some sale filament. It's under $10/roll. But I have kind of a lot of filament right now. But not that color. Decisions.

Happy #NationalCreativityDay on this #FilamentFriday.
Today I'm working on new pieces from Sacrusmundus, using the BambuLab Slicer to "paint" on the model to show which filaments to use where. I love using different filament colors to create "pre-painted" scenery pieces.

#FilamentFriday print check while on the road. AMS FTW.
Also: printing filament chips and display boards makes color planning sooooo much easier. Wish I’d done it sooner!

#FilamentFriday is downloading a new temp/speed tower, printing it, looking at the results and saying "I can't tell the difference...."
Meanwhile, an odd sort of #First for me: I'm in a dust storm.
Western suburbs of Chicago, got this on the phone. "Ah, so that's what I'm smelling: dust!"

#FilamentFriday has me trying to respool some badly-twisted PETG.
Sometimes a tangle is ephemeral and moving a loop or two gets rid of it.
This time, the main line is buried beneath two lines, each of which is also crossed by a different line or two.
After respoolling an inch, I gave up and cut it.

#FilamentFriday is being spent figuring out how to sort all the #3Dprinting filament that I've stocked up on to avoid #tariffs: companies are saying "Yes, the price *will* go up very soon" and "Expect at least 30% price increases across the board, maybe more." Prices already went up once this year.

#FilamentFriday has morphed into #SatisfactionSaturday this week.
I was nearing the end of the Filament That Shall Not Be Named. I weighed it: 22.22 grams. I looked at the project, moved a few pieces around. Sliced a plate. 19.15 grams. Close enough.

We are so impressed that many of you re-use your "filament poop" as crafting material with other arts and crafts hobbies.
What do you do with filament waste and fails?

#SurpriseSunday could've been #FilamentFriday: FugaCity filament showed up on <big site> a couple weeks ago. Today, I found out that they also make shipping tape & wrap, dye sublimation craft materials, and fancy game dice.

Do you find that large flat prints start to peel up at one corner during printing for no reason.

This knitting block will probably still work but does not look as nice.

Today on #FilamentFriday: Will The Filament That Shall Not Be Named (due to previous experiences) actually finish the test print piece it's been given? Or will it fail spectacularly, thus consigning its output to the Bin of Battle Ruins?
Stay tuned for an update later today in #3Dprinting wars!

We have been creating some snazzy 3D printed jewellery but nothing can ruin you day more than running out of filament mid print.
But our replacement sparkly green cheered us up a bit.

#FilamentFriday! Tip: Dry your filament *again* when you've used half the roll.
Truth is, the heat and airflow might not get through all the beautifully-coiled filament layers to the core of the roll.
Go ahead and pop it back in the dryer for another round once you've used a bunch of it.

We are in the process of moving into our new makerspace so we have been ordering a beautiful variety of filament colours.
That fruit salad might just be a winner!

#FilamentFriday finishes out with flow calibration tests.
The second print has a significant flaw on one piece and the infill is a mess. I paused this and trimmed things.
The finished prints are usable but meh due to under-extrusion. Gotta fix that before I kick off a 21-hr #3dprinting job.

#FilamentFriday Freakishly fast filament failure follow-up.
I now have a nice tray that's the start of my drybrush palette texture plate.
I'll use the frayed infill in silicone molds to make rocks.
Tip: Wear goggles to protect your eyes from flying frayed infill supports!
