Please sign this petition to get the attention of our school board and leaders in our state. This teacher was removed from her classroom for addressing a student by their chosen name (and not the one on their birth certificate). For background, in our district your guardians have to sign a permission slip for teachers to call you anything other than what is on your birth certificate. Which, at its foundation, is a complete waste of resources. Your opinion as to the “why” of this rule is yours BUT I don’t see how losing an educator with this level of experience and care “helps” any child. Common sense says this could have been a conversation (and also that teens are fully capable of choosing how they’d like to be addressed). All personal feelings aside about the topic, taking away freedom of speech over something like THIS hurts all of us. Thanks for signing and sharing.
