I've mentioned melodic solos a few times in #FridayNightMetal. We must discuss a core pillar of my being: Sabaton. Cliffs of Gallipoli has the platonic ideal of a melodic solo (as opposed to a shreddy solo). It's also from the golden era when they still had a full time keys.

On that sci-fi album Dark Forest had the track The Stars My Destination. Superb novel recommended to me by @alphachar.bsky.social. The most syntactically interesting title and it's probably got the best chorus hook of the album. Maiden-esque galloping guitar

We're on a bit of a Dark Forest deep dive now in #FridayNightMetal. Back in 2011 they did a sci-fi album before going down the Bucolic Metal lane.
Vox is very different here, still love it. Album art is full F117 cockpit. Lead guitar melody slaps but the tone isn't there.
