Sun shines through a handful of skinny poplar suckers in upper right. We only see the bottom of the stems, but the sun casts their blue shadows at an angle toward lower left across the snow so we can see the whole shape of the tiny trees. The snow is mostly blue shadow from larger trees out of sight behind. The sun shines through weakly, enough to illuminate frost crystals on top of the snow covered ground, making them sparkle.

Last Weekend the #FrostSpirits rode the freezing fog overnight to cover everything in crystal gems. Come morning #WindMother scattered the gems over the ground

Looking across a wetland area, in front are scattered stems of golden dry grass and dead thistles along with saplings and suckers of poplars low willows and dwarf birch poking through the snow. Past that a zone of low willows, snow and frost speckled but mostly dark-reddish. Next is a line of medium height paper birch all very frost coated and nearly white, standing out against all the other trees and shrubs. Behind is mixed woods of spruce and poplar, frost and snow coated but not as bright as the birch, the spruce in particular still half dark.. To the right, much nearer, a single youngish Aspen enters the view partly, its intricate branches snow topped but still dark against the sky; it is joined by some spruce boughs from a tree just out of sight to the right. Sky and ground blur into near white in the overcast almost sunset afternoon. A filter has added a hint of violet to the scene, and white vignetting has been added around the edges.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 18 I didn't cut wood yesterday, so I went for a walk on the farm. Nippy -16C/3F (nowhere near record for this season) but beautiful after several days of fog #frost + #snow
#SnowMother + #FrostSpirits have been decorating for the coming #WinterSolstice #WitchSky #Alberta

A single thin twig of buffaloberry/Shepherdia poplar arcs upward from lower left to upper centre. The stem is decorated with clusters of frost flakes in delicate elaborate white to translucent pyramidal/tree-like constructions pointing various directions, and clustered more thickly around the tip. Apart from the tip, closest to the viewer, the rest of the twig and stem it comes from are blurred. The background is a blurred abstract arrangement of light (snow/frost) and dark (tree trunks). A filter gives a hint of violet and a white vignette has been applied to the edges.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 17 Still yesterday's views- going to head out soon for a walk- skipping outdoor work today since it's a bit chilly + I'm not short of firewood. The #FrostSpirits have been out riding the foggy wind, leaving their ephemeral gems behind.
