square card for #FullDeckChallenge3; prompt: alphabet - background is a playing card glued to an index card & covered over with neutral, vintage paper stamped with letters of the alphabet & colored slightly with browns & blues.
The focal image is a negative-cut letter J (originally metallic & painted over with black acrylic pain) + 3 postage stamps lying on top of a piece of tea-dyed cheesecloth. On its right is a vintage-style wooden button with hemp string.
At the top right, the word (brown on beige) "reflections"
for #AlteredIndex2025; prompt: Fairy Tales
An altered playing card covered with a page from Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti. It's from an old copy of a series of poems by the author with lovely yellowed paper. I added light coating of gesson & some patina-like colors (blues/greens/browns).
Some torn, autumn leaf stickers + a ripped portion of a fabric "leaf" add to the texture. You can see a faint shadow of a troll/goblin figure + a bunch of pomegranates (mentioned in the poem) behind the black & white images of 2 young, white Victorian girls (die cuts from Tim Holtz). One girl holds a teddy bear.
At the top left, a blue/green/pink butterfly with the words "Goblin Market" cut out from the old book on top of the butterfly.
This week in #art: weekly challenges!
1. for #FullDeckChalleng3; prompt: alphabet
2. for #AlteredIndex2025; prompt: fairies/fairy tales - I chose Goblin Market for this one, bc (a) I love the poem & (b) I have a very old paperback of Christina Rosetti poems & *had* to use it!
