#GallowsCorner #ttrpg
If you work in #Romford there is a travel survey running on #Havering council's website until 27th March.
Annoying to see a question on #GallowsCorner which is almost finished and #ULEZ - that argument is over folks.

It's worth noting that @cyclehavering.bsky.social have been campaigning for this for ages and it's good to see it appearing.
Mind you, the flyover and junction at #GallowsCorner is undergoing a £67m rebuild and the walking, wheeling and cycling provision should have been there from day one.
A view of a worksite of a toucan crossing being built. The crossing is barriered off and the traffic signals are bagged.
A close up of the signals which will have a red man over a green man, green bike to the left and a countdown unit to the right.
Pleased to report that despite my concerns about the dropped kerbs, the crossing I was going on about the other day on the Straight Road arm of #GallowsCorner is a toucan.

A two stage crossing being built with red tactile paving and a wide central island.
Close view of a road surface looking at a dropped kerb that should be flush but isn't.
Meanwhile at #GallowsCorner, a new a new signalised crossing is going. I'm guessing two stage for traffic flow, but not staggered. 4m wide so probably a toucan, but council papers don't say.
Of course, none of the dropped kerbs are actually flush.

I backed #GallowsCorner from @threesailsstudios.bsky.social. Ask your feudal lord if "A Peasants' Revolt" (RPG) might be right for you... ? Or, maybe just decide for yourself! ;P

A wide shot of the flyover from a roundabout below.
Work ongoing at #GallowsCorner which has a new flyover which hilariously looks like the old one (but a bit chunkier).

A steel beam bridge ramp ends at a truss just before a road. The area is barriered off and a lowered crane sits waiting to start work.
A bridge support truss which is two columns and X bracing.
Had a wander to look at progress at #GallowsCorner this morning. The A127 ramp is well underway and the trusses to support the crossing of the roundabout are up.
Had to chuckle at the fact the new flyover will look very similar (if chunkier) than the old one.
Amazing, the press have picked up how far the #TfL works at #GallowsCorner force people to walk and wheel around the diversion.

congestion & failing thanks to induced demand & if I recall correctly @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social been posting about the London end as more tweaking to induce more motor traffic around #GallowsCorner. Proving again Gov & highway depts never learn from their continuing failures to reduce congestion.
View from Colchester Road over to Main Road. Three lanes of road on the left of a splitter island joins a grassed roundabout with trees on it.
A view across three traffic lanes from the road of the roundabout back towards the Colchester Road. The grassed roundabout island is just to the right of shot.
A view across the middle of the grassed roundabout island over a tarmac maintenance strip. Towards the A127.
Here's #GallowsCorner without a flyover. A view not seen for 55 years.
Of course we're putting another one back because we need to drive everywhere.
Bloody cyclists, riding down the middle of the road.
Me, recklessly cycling on the 50mph A12 Eastern Avenue East this morning, looking at the #GallowsCorner works.
(zero motor access on this bit).
I wish he'd go and look at TfL's project at #GallowsCorner
A view from the roundabout back to Colchester Road with a KFC on the left and a line of trees to the right. There are coned off lanes.
A view across the grassy roundabout with trees and the aging steel flyover in the background.
View from the roundabout back along the Southend Arterial with the flyover and retail park beyond. The worksite is fenced off.
Main Road looking towards the roundabout just out of shot. 4 lanes of tarmac and a car and a van there. Both sides flanked by trees.
Away from the terrible walking, wheeling and cycling experience, #GallowsCorner is rather eerie without motors. Aside from buses and a few people who will be getting tickets for ignoring the signs.
A path with a green area for cycles to the left separated from pedestrians by a white line. In the road to the right a red sign with "cyclists dismount use footway" in white. There are buses queueing at traffic signals to the right.
Well, a longer walk to take in the walking, wheeling and cycling provision now that the #GallowsCorner closure is in. First up, the inevitable cyclists dismount on the Colchester Road arm. A few roadies cycle on the dual carriageway and I saw a couple stay on the road because why wouldn't you?
A crossing is barriered off with high fencing and there is a crossing not in used sign.
A large 5 arm roundabout map showing a crossing closed in red with a yellow line all the way round as a diversion.
And of course I was going to cross the A127 toucan at #GallowsCorner, but it's closed and with the little map telling me to all the way round the entire thing.
A metal A-frame held down with sand bags awaiting a sign face blocks half the path forcing people to the road side.
A metal A-frame held down with sand bags awaiting a sign face blocks half the path forcing people to the road side with a yellow diversion sign just beyond that making a chicane.

So pleased to see that for Monday's closure of #GallowsCorner, @london.gov.uk has made sure that the flood of temporary diversion signs are not in any way going to impact those of us who walk, wheel and cycle on the #A12 shared-use path. It's lovely to get close to the 50mph traffic.
Raio adverts for the forthcoming closure of #GallowsCorner by @london.gov.uk completely ignore walking, wheeling and cycling as alternatives during the work.

Person to me "we will all park our cars before the roundabout get our bicycles out the boot and cycle the rest of the way to our destinations. Or walk if it’s close enough 🤣" Me to person "you can do what you need to do, my comment was very clearly in general. So many people drive *very* short journeys through Gallows Corner." Person to me "I don’t. I come from Canvey to Rainham/Dagenham. I know the A13 won’t be affected as such but it will be much, much busier. It’s bad enough as it is." me to person: "that's the price of commuting I'm afraid, sometimes infrastructure needs to be repaired; people would be upset if it had to be closed because of an emergency collapse. It's a pity there are no trains from where you are to where you're going that you could use for a few weeks."
On the planned and advertised summer closure of #GallowsCorner in #Havering where yes, I am a petty troll who is going to very much enjoy the coming weeks.
This is a disaster for commuters, businesses and locals. Direction from North Essex and South Essex blocked off! Where will people be diverted through? This is the stupidity of Khan and an absolute attack and disregard for motorist. Local residents in the surrounding areas are going to be much inconvenienced. I can see all areas to the North and centre of Havering gridlocked.I can see the A13 being affected too. An absolute disaster.
Should have done all the work during COVID
May as well be in another lock down...won't go out unless absolutely necessary !!
I don't come from the area but drive over the flyover twice a day I go from stanford le hope to gants hill and back again ... M25 and A13 are not options ... anyone know a diversion that won't add hours I keep looking at maps and can't figure it out
I'm really enjoying the responses to a local paper's story about #GallowsCorner closing to general traffic next month for major works. So many experts, so much car-brain.
Here's what TfL is doing
