My winter sowing lettuce seedlings sprouted too early (my fault) so I've planted them at the base of the indoor avocado tree. Felt bad to throw all the seedlings into the compost. #gardenthoughts

Ironically, the bean plants that did the best were the vines the squirrels planted in the corner of the yard. The beans I planted in the garden were overrun with weeds. #gardenthoughts

4 golden raspberries in the palm of my hand

The golden raspberries are coming in nicely. Picking them reminds me of advice a friend's grandfather gave me - you'll know it's ripe when the raspberry comes off easily. He always chastised us if we came back with juice-covered hands. #gardenthoughts

I just love my camellias! They bloom when hardly anything else flowers like an extravagant woman wearing a ball gown to a picnic. The shiny green leaves and ruffled skirt petals seem all the more beautiful amongst the dry gray grass and half-empty tree branches. #flowers #camellia #gardenthoughts
