The interior of the zine is printed in Kelly Green, this page features two invented animals ground bog muskrat with moss leaves for fur and a sporangium for a head, as well as a rusty peat porcupine with sphagnum moss mixed in with the quills and also a sporangium for the head. The text reads: “Mossy Mammals. Moss guardians are complete autotrophs, getting all their energy from the sun. Spores can be found on or in their heads. They go into torpor or hibernation when nutrient availability is low.”
This page, also printed in green, features a devil’s jumping slug, a semislug with the bloodlike droplets of bleeding tooth fungus, as well as an eyelash sideband, a snail whose shell is replaced with spiraling cup fungi. The text reads “Mushroom Mollusks. Fungi guardians all appear to be invertebrates, particularly gastropods. Thus far, I have only been able to find the guardians when fruiting, and I suspect they burrow to protect the hyphae during other times of the year.”
