Finally tidying up the bird's nest of cables and floating PCBs before Assemble Darby tomorrow, the Colour Pixel Picker is hardware complete, just need to finish the software 😂
Part of my #GiganticUnicorn project.
#GiganticUnicorn
Used the colour picker to create this 8-bit Pacman image. :-) software status is good enough. Need to make a couple changes to the function keys, currently too easy to wipe your hard work with one key press. This Saturday I will be showing off this project and others at assemble. #giganticUnicorn
Update for the Giant Unicorn hat colour selector. It works! 😎
#GiganticUnicorn
I will be at Assemble, Darby on Saturday, showing off the @pimoroni.com Giant Unicorn hat and other projects.
#GiganticUnicorn
Software has been started, the LEDs buffer is sent to the PyGame on a Raspberry Pi.
#GiganticUnicorn
Working on the layout for the colour sector for my #GiganticUnicorn project, you are able to change the colour of individual pixels on the Unicorn hats.... Well you will be able to when I finish the programming :-)
The faders are motorised and move to the stored value after selection, currently set up for RGB colour values. It's programmed in CircuitPython. The motor driver is a @pimoroni.com Motor 2040 and is handling all the inputs and outputs.
#GiganticUnicorn
Further update on my #GiganticUnicorn colour controller build, now have the Trellis keypad/display working and the fader is able to set colour level, currently only a single channel is connected, when selecting a pixel, fader is set automatically to current level.
Today, I have been working on a controller for the Giant Unicorn Hat. Have written a function to move the powered fadder to a set position, using a @pimoroni.com motor 2040, running CircuitPython to monitor/control the faders and the NeoTreilis.
#GiganticUnicorn
Quick and dirty test at 5v, that was quick!
#GiganticUnicorn
I blame @usedbytes.com for this, motorised faders for selecting the colour values of the Giant Unicorn hat pixels, thinking about designing a PCB to make it pretty :-) select a pixel and the pots move to the correct values #GiganticUnicorn
In a field in Suffolk :-) #footfest
A giant thank you to @pimoroni.com for their support allowing me to create the Giant Unicorn Hat.
#GiganticUnicorn
Tomorrow, I will be showing off the Giant Unicorn Hat at the Liverpool Makefest, made from a herd of 64 @pimoroni.com old school Unicorn hats, alongside it will be proof of concepts and development units, I created before the big one. Entry is free at Liverpool Central Library.
#GiganticUnicorn
Final test for the Giant Unicorn Hat before we leave for Liverpool Makefest tomorrow evening.
#GiganticUnicorn
It's the little or not so little details that make or break a project :-)
#GiganticUnicorn
M40 x 100m hex standoff for the #GiganticUnicorn sorry no banana for scale :-)
That better, same as the screen @gadgetoid.com rainbow example code on 64 @pimoroni.com old school Unicorn hats.
#GiganticUnicorn
We have rainbows! 64 old school Pimoroni Unicorn hats #GiganticUnicorn
Passed all basic checks, all Unicorn hats fitted and powered up, time to flash firmware on the Pimoroni keybows, and start spitting out rainbows! #GiganticUnicorn
Passed all basic checks, all Unicorn hats fitted and powered up, time to flash firmware on the Pimoroni keybows, and start spitting out rainbows! #GiganticUnicorn
First power up, all DC to DC converters are powered on and outputting correct voltages, time to start adding the Unicorn hats. :-) #GiganticUnicorn
Finally all the wiring has been done! 263 crimps crimped, 40 meters of cable ran. Just need to test the power side, drop the firmware on @Pimoroni keybows and then connect 64 old school Pimoroni old school Unicorn hats.
#GiganticUnicorn
High voltage side wiring done, just last row of the Unicorn hat wiring to finished the ready for testing. I will be showing off my #GiganticUnicorn at Liverpool Makefest on the 5th July.
Started wiring the #GiganticUnicorn. First 2 rows have been wired for the @pimoroni.com old school Unicorn hats, USB leads for the keybows are installed and dressed. Just six more rows plus power left to wire.
256 hex stand offs installed, ready for mounting 64 x old school @pimoroni.com Unicorn hats #GiganticUnicorn
Base board painted and glued, just laying out parts that need to be installed not including the @raspberrypi thinking may cut down the number of DC-DC converters and limit the brightness of the Unicorn hats in firmware. Still have 64 leads for hats to make up.
#GiganticUnicorn
lots of things to add to the my #GiganticUnicorn project!
