Spellcheck trying to change the word Tanks to Thanks.
Sometimes writing about military history is a struggle and it's not to do with the handwriting on the records.

I've written a piece for the Write On! Magazine about my weekend with @thegreatwargroup.bsky.social last month and my first steps into learning to "do history". Please give it a read and let me know what you think..

Slacking on packing for my trip to England next week. It still doesn’t feel real. So excited to meet all the people I met via twitter and the #WeHaveWays #IC and the #GreatWarGroup communities. Also excited to do the touristy #SWW things
Grey German 77mm Field Gun with varnished wooden wheels against a background of greenery, beneath a fagpole flying a saltire.
Really pleased to be at Clan Cameron Museum, Achnacarry (that's near Ft William)next Wednesday (27th Aug) to talk about this gem. Captured at Loos by 5th Bn Cameron Highlanders. If you're around do come along (11.00-15.00) - I'll be the lonely nerd standing by the gun. #FWW #WW1 #Greatwargroup #WFA
Actually the first time I visited this memorial in the rain and thunder, you could almost close your eyes, and imagine the roar of the grenades and explosions, of course on a much larger scale. 🙏 #greatwargroup
No Liz, you've been mislead. On the plus side this did enable #greatwargroup to begin fabrication of an excuse to evade their much more important undertaking to pursue der große Lüge of their friends.
Chickens will come home to roost. In Scotland we say that “Whit's fur ye'll no go by ye.”
Amazing weekend at #GreatWarGroup 3rd conference, #Brighton. Great talks, fantastic camaraderie & fun, as well as the opportunity to learn about the work and research that others are doing. This morning was a visit to the war memorial, a few moments of reflection & commemoration.
Ends as it began. Fantastic weekend with the #GreatWarGroup folks in Brighton - great talks, excellent people. Thanks to Alex, Beth and the trustees for another superb conference. @alexchurchill.bsky.social

View of the Asiago plateau from Monte Zovetto. I’ll be talking about 48th Division in Italy (and the Western Front) at the Great War Group conference in Brighton next weekend. Hope to see some of you there! #WW1 #GreatWarGroup
