Jamal, Mia, Cindy, and Najat joined the #HackneyBuzzline ecoteam at Kingsmead Primary Dchool. Head teacher Evelyn Deeney asks them what they're doing for pollinators, why we need bees and butterflies, and how they chose two beautiful mosaics for their school, made by the Hackney Mosaic Project.
We're thrilled to have formed an art partnership with the Hackney Mosaic Project. Founder Tessa Hunkin tells how volunteers are making a trail of beautiful bee and butterfly mosaics along the #HackneyBuzzline. We've installed the first pair of mosaics at Kingsmead Primary School.
Children from Kingsmead primary school helping sow a butterfly meadow on the #HackneyBuzzline. The mix of wildflowers and grass seeds was selected to support the Essex Skipper, whose numbers are regionally declining. The project is supported by Butterfly Conservation and the Heritage Fund.
Speaker at Butterfly Conservation conference presenting 'We are in a Butterfly Emergency' slide.
I'm grateful to Butterfly Conservation for the opportunity to talk about our experiences of pollinator conservation on the #HackneyBuzzline at the Big City Butterflies Conference. Lots of fascinating presentations.
Digger removing turf in a park on the Hackney Buzzline to create a butterfly meadow.
We stripped turf off Daubeney Fields on the #HackneyBuzzline. Then, we sowed the nutrient-poor scrape with a seed mix tailored to create a meadow for declining grassland butterfly species. Supported by Butterfly Conservation charity for the @hackneycouncil.bsky.social local nature recovery plan.
We're growing the #HackneyBuzzline through @hackneycouncil.bsky.social estates. Hackney Housing joined charity ecoACTIVE volunteers and residents on Homerton's Linzell Estate to add pollinator-friendly flowers, a habitat hedge, bee hotels, woodchip path, and benches to the Linzell Garden.
