These lovely #red spidery #flowers are all from the #Hamamelidaceae family. Winter, spring, early summer & fall blooming. #Distillium, an evergreen #witch hazel, Diane #hamamelis, #Parrotia persica. Male & female parts of the #hazelnut tree. Tiny inconspicuous #Disanthus cercidifolius 💜 my fav

Saw some exceptionally vibrant Hamamelis vernalis (Ozark witch-hazel) in flower yesterday. Seems just a few weeks too early but I’m not the authority on witch-hazel phenology 🤷 #hamamelidaceae #ozarks #flowers

Another #Hamamelidaceae pollinated by fungus gnats: Hamamelis virginiana, pollinated mostly by Bradysia spp (#Sciaridae; #Diptera) but also small bees. When these plants flower there are few insects about, but H. viginiana provides a nectar reward. #Botany #PlantScience 🌾🧪
