Used organic Irish worsted wool. Played with garter/moss for texture, used K2tog and YO for shaping/eyelets. Added a soft ruffle at the top. Closed the bottom with a spiral.

Shown on a mannequin in front of an oval mirror so we see a bit of the back too - is a handknitted top … It is ‘Empire line’ or high waisted - the bodice and upper sleeves are a mid green - plain stocking stitch. The bodice has a V neckline & it buttons with 3 vintage glass buttons. There is a flared ‘skirt’ to the top - and to the sleeves - these parts are in Chevron Stitch and striped - wavy stripes of brown pink grey lime … This was adapted from a Noro pattern and some of the striped part is in Noro yarn (their 8ply / DK Kureyon) but there are other yarns too (a bit of stash busting!) The mid green I used for the bodice & sleeves was recycled yarn - an old jumper I unknitted - I used the wool with the crimp in it - and there is a nice ‘poodle’ texture which has not decreased despite washing!

Lying flat on a white plastic storage box is a forest green vest (sleeveless pullover) with a V neck and a textured stitch pattern. I adapted this from a vintage pattern (Patons and 1940s or 50s). Usually, vintage patterns are in very thin yarn and we might be adapting to a thicker yarn - in this case it was the other way around. The pattern was for 8ply (DK) and I had 5ply (Sports Wt) The texture is rather nice though - vertical stripes of garter stitch and diamond shapes. You can do so much with just knit and purl stitches. Yarn was Bendigo Woollen Mills Classic 5ply
