I am deeply disappointed that the UNISON Health SGE has invited Wes Streeting, who has implemented a harmful ban on puberty blockers for transgender teenagers and advocates for the involvement of private healthcare companies in the NHS, to speak at our Health Conference tomorrow. Just in the last day it has been revealed that Streeting has received £58,000 from private healthcare companies since becoming a minister, while 100,000 NHS workers face redundancy due to the Labour Government's austerity. Either we are a member-led union or we are not. If our democratically-agreed policy is to mean anything, why are we rolling out the red carpet to a politician opposed to fundamental principles that our members believe in?
