And one day, Viktor finds, in a deeply recessed corner of his mind, flashes of a young Silco. So, perhaps also hoping to convince himself that there is still something beautiful to be found in a relationship once pure and untainted, he pulls them both further into those early memories of two young miners, two young men full of optimism and drive and desire for change. And underneath, desire for something else. Viktor uncovers memories of those slender hands and high cheekbones, of bodies pressed together and silky raven hair threaded lovingly between fingers... It sets Warwick off, that long hair, and they are both ripped from the dreamlike space of Vander's subconscious as Warwick pounces, pins Viktor to the floor of the greenhouse half snarling and half whimpering. All he can see is that long hair, he sees it on Viktor, not the same but close enough, falling back from his face, fanning out across the ground. Viktor feels the shockwaves of Vander's rage moving through him but stays calm, tries to project that into Vander's mind even though they're not connected.

"He's gone now. You know he is, but you don't have to be." Warwick breathes hard and hot across Viktor's face, bared teeth mere inches away, saliva dripping onto his chest. Viktor doesn't flinch from him. In fact he reaches out to hold the side of his face, gently smoothing over the fur at the very edge of his cheek. "You don't need to forgive him, only yourself." It's not enough to bring him back, not yet, there's still so much work to do. But Warwick pushes away from him, claw marks deep in the soil on either side of Viktor's head, and stalks away to the opposite end of the greenhouse. Viktor sits up from the ground, trying to tame the beast scratching at the inside of his own chest, too.
