This free image (not our photo) shows two brown-shelled land snails that appear to be engaged in…well, science would label it Reproduction. We’ll opt for a “Passionate Clinch” instead.❤️🔥😉 Snails are amazing creatures, both on land & in the sea. Too many gardeners think them the bane of a “perfect garden’s” existence. In fact, they play a vital role in its ecosystem, just as their shell-less form, slugs, do. Yes, they’ll nibble on your precious, tender flowers & plants. But they play a part in rejuvenating & enriching soil, especially slugs-which “recycle” dead leaves/leaf litter by eating them, then burrowing down to put nutrients back into the soil. Snails & slugs also play a part in Nature’s food chain-& we’re not talking about escargots! Many garden birds & hedgehogs eat them, important nutrition in their varied diet. Snails & slugs are amazing in so many ways. We watched a scientific study done in average gardens in which they collected snails from all over a garden, noting where each came from. When the snails were returned randomly to the garden, all of them knew exactly which “quarter” of the garden space they’d come from & made their way back to that area. We’ve also seen snails & slugs leave quite “artistic designs” on our patio, done with their slime trails (photos of these are way down our feed now, including one wh/shows what resembles a 🎼 clef! For so many reasons, we plead with those who garden:🙏please don’t poison/kill snails & slugs. They’re so vital in Nature. (Also, if you use poison you may wind up killing birds or hedgehogs as well😢)! We❤️🐌& slugs as we try to Garden For Wildlife…And, tbh, with so many varieties, they can actually be quite beautiful, too, which endears us to them all the more. They are important even to our tiny garden…& in the wider scheme of Nature’s Life itself.~tamisar💞
#Snails reproduce thru a process that often involves courtship rituals & internal fertilization. Most land🐌are #hermaphrodites tho typically require a partner for successful reproduction to enhance genetic diversity. #Love #Romance #Nature
