Head and neck of a juvenile American Alligator. In mottled sunlight behind out-of-focuse greenery. Scales along it's neck are glowing in the morning sun. It's eye is olive green with slim black vertical slit pupil - looking right at me.

Just got the credit card bill that has the majority (but not all) of our #Artemis - Florida expenses from earlier this month.

Ouch!

But it breaks out to less than $600 per launch (we caught at least a glimpse of 4) - or abt $205 per new alligator🐊 specimen plugged into #HerpMapper.

A Slider Turtle, Trachemys scripta, floating in a retention pond. Horizontal slit pupils highlight a striped face and upturned pointed nose.

Ribbit. American Bullfrog sitting partially submerged in a pond, with aquatic vegetation all around it. Large eyes and large ear tympani highlight this species.

A smol Green Treefrog almost hidden in green and brown vegetation.

Front portion of an Eastern Ribbon snake, lying very still in a dirt path hoping that I didn't see it.

4 species of #herps spotted and mapped on this most recent, and likely last camping trip of the year. Multiple specimens of all entered into my #Herpmapper list.

Currituck County, NC.

Smol, mostly green frog sitting on the corner of a cracked, weathered and slightly mossy wooden porch post. Said Froggie has large golden eyes, with horizontal slit pupils. A dark stripe runs from the tip of its nows back to behind its ear. A more "cream" color is below that stripe and the frogs underbelly.

During Garbage Day Duty this morning, a thumbnail sized juvenile Squirrel #Treefrog (Dryophytes squirellus) greeted me on the porch. He wouldn't look me in the eye - probably trying to hide a mouthful of delicious bugs!

While I had only a bag of garbage.

A small (12"?) and thin green snake lightly but firmly held in hand and wrapped around wrist of a man.

Same small green snake lightly held by man, and sidling over to the hand of a teenage girl.

Rough Green #Snake (O. aestivus) joins the "Found in Backyard Club"!

In the past, I've found this species to be feisty - as in both nippy AND musky. This little dude was neither. Got some pics for #Herpmapper logging, introduced it to grandsprogs, and released unharmed.

Into 2nd Quarter of 2024. After a week in Panama last Feb, the NE US last July, and Texas recently - still got some work to do!
