According to ebird.com, Eastern Kingbirds are Large-headed medium sized flycatchers.
Eastern Kingbirds are named for the seldom seen crown they wear atop their heads.
Like royalty, Kingbirds wear a reddish-orange patch on top of its head that flashes during defensive or mating displays.
Eastern Kingbirds only have one brood a season and have a hearty survival rate-most likely due to the parents remaining with their chicks after they fledge to teach them how to hunt and survive.
Busy week--so here are my early #FeatheredFriday photos. Eastern Kingbirds after a downpour with mating "crown" feathers visible. #Birds #BirdingOH #EasternKingbirds #HighlandMetroPark #Nature #Photography
