On #ThisDayInHistory in 1956, the #HungarianRevolution began. Americans like to claim it was pro-capitalist but students and workers rose up within #socialist structures like workers councils (soviets), under socialist leaders, to demand elections and an end to USSR's domination.
My grandparents fled Hungary during the 1956 #HungarianRevolution because of oppression, threats, secret police, corruption, and wanting a better life for themselves. They could not speak their minds or voice opinions. I find it sad that many cannot speak further. Currently.
I am glad my grandma is dead so she wouldn't have to see reincarnated secret police in the US.
Today the anniversary of the #HungarianRevolution of 1956, where my grandparents fled for the right to speak their minds through frozen swamps into Austria.
