April 7 1994 the start of an intense & horrific period in history, as almost 1m people were slaughtered in Rwanda in just 3 months, mostly with the use of a machete. These children were some of the lucky ones who made it to the border with Burundi, where I watching as what started as a trickle turned into a river of walking wounded fleeing the chaos.

Il y a 50 ans, le massacre des Hutus du Burundi a lancé la spirale génocidaire Le 29 avril 1972, un massacre de Tutsis dans le sud du Burundi mit le feu aux poudres et incita l’armée à décimer les Hutus. De nos jours encore, ces « massacres fondateurs », qui firent entre 100.000 et 200.000 morts et provoquèrent l’exode de 150.000 réfugiés, sont inscrits dans la mémoire de tous les Burundais.

Le colonisateur #belge avait accentué le fossé entre #Hutus et #Tutsis au #Burundi. Ces derniers commirent un premier #génocide en 1972. Puis vint 1994...
