Two butterflies with mostly transparent wings (bearing small eyespots and scattered orange polygons) sipping liquid from a piece of fallen fruit on the forest floor at Rio Quijos Ecolodge in Ecuador. The species is Pseudohaetera hypaesia, the Hypaesia satyr, they are in the Lepidopteran family Nymphalidae.
“One of those pictures”. One you hoped you might have a chance to capture, one you worked for (kneeling in a muddy trail to get the angle) & one you had to get before the subjects flew away. Got it.
