1 cool thing that happened during #ICANN81 was that one of the @ICANN staff was a darling & managed to bring me my copy of #TheftofFire (#TOF by @Devon_Eriksen_) all the way from the US.

A really great event in one of my favourite cities.
I will post a summary of the "work stuff" later, but for now my biggest takeaway (and delight) was that someone registered istanbul.cat to showcase the.... Istanbul cats!!! 🐈 👏

Following up from #ICANN81 Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) sessions last week, their communique is now out. It doesn't contain any formal GAC Advice (that the #ICANN Board needs to respond to), but it manages to pack in a lot of "Issues of Importance to the GAC"

#ICANN81 GAC Communique drafting: the 10-minute break was successful in reaching a solution. Argentina's, as well as Russia's, comments on the #GlobalDigitalCompact will be included in the meeting minutes, under a new section to be added for Communique drafting.

#ICANN81 GAC Communique drafting: A number of States are suggesting to Argentina that its objection to #GlobalDigitalCompact be included in the minutes of the meeting, rather than the Communique. But Argentina doesn't want this. Chair calls 10 min break to try & resolve this.

#ICANN81 GAC Communique drafting: Not even Russia, which was strongly against adopting the #GlobalDigitalCompact at the UNGA, is insisting on such a footnote. But it says that if such a footnote is included, then they want to be included alongside Argentina as opposing the GDC.

#ICANN81 GAC Communique drafting has skidded off into a very unexpected detour. Despite #GlobalDigitalCompact & #WSIS+20 being on the official agenda of GAC sessions this week, Argentina doesn't want them mentioned, or wants a footnote that states that Argentina doesn't support the GDC.

Wet sugar glider hanging upside down on a tree
Couldn't post from #ICANN81 last night as lost power for 7 hrs due to big storms here. Router backup battery doesn't last anywhere near that long, so went spotlighting instead. This sugar glider was still wet 3 hrs post-storm. More storms predicted for tonight, so may be incommunicado again.
