It was an absolute joy this week to chair my second meeting of @theichr.bsky.social hosted by the wonderful @parkbmb.bsky.social in Nashville.

So jam-packed with brilliant papers was #ICHR2025 that we had barely a minute free in Nashville. Readers will be relieved to know we made the most of them at a Dolly Parton-themed rooftop bar to sample the ‘Melondramatics’ @aldersonday.bsky.social @pmoseley.bsky.social @georgiapunton.bsky.social

On a personal note, it was a huge honour to be an invited speaker at #ICHR2025 and to fly the flag for interdisciplinary approaches to the phenomenology of voices. Such an inspiring group of people and a wonderful three days!

Ippolytos Kalofonos - psychiatrist & anthropologist - presents to #ICHR2025 projects bringing hearing voices groups to Veteran Affairs clinics. A compelling case for why this would be such a good fit despite clear challenges & that’s before you look at the case made by the data from their pilots

Drawing on studies in Ghana, India, Thailand, Russia & China, & with evangelical Christians, tulpamancers & elite athletes, Luhrmann shows convincingly that practice, proclivity & porosity are key to understanding ‘non-clinical’ voice-hearing & to asking new Q’s about psychosis #ICHR2025

Day two of #ICHR2025 begins with the one and only Tanya Luhrmann speaking on “Culture and Voices”.

Voices are not merely a glitch or aberration, but tell us “something fundamental about our minds”, our cultures, and our ways of understanding thinking itself
