A large fabric mural hanging outside the Gardner. It’s of a woman wearing red pointed dress shoes in a butter yellow short sleeve top and pants, holds a designer hand bag, that looks like a mask, in front of her face. In bright red block print on the front of her shirt is printed TRADITION IS NOT STATIC Taken during a a fashion shoot in the Little Salon at the Museum. The large installation on the façade of the Gardner is on Evans Way. It’s dedicated to commissioning and rotating new site-specific works from the Artist-in-Residence program since 2012. The fabric scrim serves as an outdoor canvas that extends the gallery space beyond the Museum's interior walls and serves as public art in the city of Boston.

Excerpt from the label — “In this image, taken during a fashion shoot in the Little Salon at the [Gardner] Museum, a mask that became a bag plays at being a mask again. The iconic Tecuán or Jaguar mask, held by the model, originates in the town of San Francisco Ozomatlán in the southwestern state of Guerrero, and the artisans Santos and Claudio Najera have used the same centuries-old, hand-painted mask-making technique to create a handbag line with Fernández.”
