Standing at the Cadder Pit Memorial Cairn for #IWMD deeply moved me. My grandfather worked at nearby Auchengeich, where a similar disaster struck. If things had been different, I’d never have known him. Today, I remember all those lost and the families forever changed.

A dark green graphic with two dark blocks of text. The top one has the headline "Solidarity with University of Dundee Trade Unions" the text of the motion is too much for the alt text, but it can be read on the Scottish Parliament website with the motion reference S6M-16886. The second headline reads "Robert Gordon University Industrial Action" and again the text exceeds the alt text limitations but the motion can be found with the reference S6M-17090
A picture taken close-up of a wreath of memorial flowers, with dark green leaves and red flowers. The red ribbon which lays across reads "FBU" (Fire Brigades Union). A small note in the flowers says "Remember the dead, fight for the living."

An honour to talk at today's #IWMD service at the National Memorial Arboretum about Vale Rawlings. In the year he helped found Burton's 1st branch of the Workers' Union, 3,474 people nationally died at work and 379,902 were injured. And not ALL workplace accidents were reported. #Staffordshire
On Workers' Memorial Day, we remember those who've lost their lives due to work-related illness or injury.
138 people died from injuries at work in the UK last year. Many more lost their lives to occupational illness.
We must ensure effective regulation & enforcement to keep workers' safe.

Photograph 2: Close up of Equity Members on the Justice For Heklina campaign protest. Protesters in fashionable clothes march with placards along the Thames path. Some of the placards show headshots of Heklina in her vivacious powder blue wig and electric pink dress. Other placards read, in Equity's signature font and purple lettering, 'LGBTQ+ workers have a right to safety'.
Photograph 3: shows Equity members, councillors and staff protesting outside the BAFTA Games Awards 2025, on London's South Bank. They are looking into camera which shoots them from above, they are smiling and holding their fist aloft in a gesture of solidarity, they hold placards which read 'union contracts in gaming now'.
Unions are here to defend every worker and ensure that safety standards are met. Today, and everyday, we honour the dead and fight for the living. #IWMD #IWMD25
