At some personal risk during the partition of India and Pakistan – and the forced migrations it caused – Joshi tried to ease tensions between Hindu and Muslim peoples. After the nation achieved independence, she became a member of India’s parliament. In that role, Joshi helped pass a law that made it a crime to broadcast or distribute disinformation.
