We have supported several students who were misinformed or wrongly advised after Brexit. This case highlights the importance of specialist EU Settlement Scheme advice — built on years of experience supporting EUSS applications since 2019.
This work was funded by UK aid from the UK government and by Canada’s International Development Research Centre, as part of Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) research programme.

This story is a reminder that people are still being left behind by the EU Settlement Scheme, even years after the deadline. Late applications, lack of information, and loss of funding mean specialist EUSS support remains essential.

International law is clear: seeking asylum is a right. Criminalising people for fleeing danger undermines the values Scotland should stand for — solidarity, dignity and welcome.

Was honoured to host this conversation between Mostafa Henaway and @avilewis.ca yesterday on #InternationalMigrantsDay.
Migrants aren't to blame for making your life unaffordable— billionaires are. When we turn against each other, they win and we all lose.

This testimony shows how immigration and welfare issues are often deeply connected. By building trust through one service, we’re able to understand wider needs and offer joined-up support that helps people move towards greater stability, independence, and autonomy.

"But no response can undo the human cost of deliberate political choices. In the shadow of #InternationalMigrantsDay, we condemn Europe’s inhumane border policies behind yet another tragedy. This is a moral failure in plain sight."

A tall vertical painting of a parent holding an infant close to their chest. The parent’s face is drawn with strain and exhaustion, looking down at the child. One hand holds a baby bottle; the other supports the child. Both parent and child wear striped clothing. A sweater is tied around the parent’s waist. Behind them, a decorative background of blue, gold, and white floral patterns surrounds a gold halo around the parent’s head, giving the image a sacred, iconic feel. The overall mood is protective, tender, and filled with emotional weight, suggesting the struggles of migration and survival.
A painted portrait of a young boy seen through a chain-link fence. His hands grip the fence wires at both sides, and his expression is sad and distant. He wears a blue and white striped shirt. Behind him is a dark background filled with colorful floral patterns in yellow, green, orange, and white. A gold circular halo surrounds his head, suggesting innocence or sanctity. The fence creates a visual barrier between the viewer and the child, emphasizing themes of confinement and vulnerability.
