A water media, drawing of a fallen log with mushrooms and a sapling growing out of it. The text reads, international nature journaling week day seven. Future vision. The future is imperfect, and our vision clouded. But one thing is true: the old and rotten will fall and new life will spring from its corpse. May the new life be greener and smarter.

The last prompt for #InternationalNatureJournalingWeek was “creating a vision for the future.” I was tempted to draw the rotting body of Emperor Palpatine (but really you-know-who) feasted on by carrion beetles & other decomposters in #nature 🌱

Day 6’s prompt for #InternationalNatureJournalingWeek is “sensing the world around us.” It reminds us to use as many senses as possible to commune with #nature 🌱🌸

A watercolor pencil drawing of a Red-shouldered Hawk and a murder of crows flying. The words read, I don’t feel like this is a very separate prompt from yesterday‘s, but these are things I listened to, and that are listening to each other: a red shoulder talk and a mobbing murder of crows. Listening attentively is the title.

The 5th day of #InternationalNatureJournalingWeek - very much related to the previous day’s “storytelling with nature.” Humans tend not to listen very well in general but if we let it, #nature can train us to be better at it.

A page in my sketchbook drawn with Tombow dual brush markers of a pile of animal bones found somewhere on our property.

The text says “nature tells a story and we tell stories about nature. I know that this pile of bones we found on our property tells a tale as exciting as any Hollywood movie, maybe even more so as it is actual reality. What might I tell about it? International nature journaling week, June 4, 2025.”

For the 4th day of #InternationalNatureJournalingWeek the theme is “storytelling with #nature.” I feel like nature is constantly whispering stories to us that most of us can’t hear, either because we’re too busy to slow down and listen or because we have not yet learned its language.

June 3, 2025 watercolor drawing of a scarlet Tanger sitting on a branch. The topic is exploring nature through poetry. It is paired with the haiku in the post itself.

Day 2 of #InternationalNatureJournalingWeek on my own schedule. We are to ponder words about or related to #nature. But the burning question on my mind was how people come up with some of the names that are given to plants and animals.

An Eastern Whip-poor-will amidst saturated colors drawn with Tombow Brush Markers. The accompanying words say “the evening call of the whippoorwill. About as loud as an old-fashioned alarm clock on your bed stand, except that the bird is at least 15 feet away. Sounds like a bugle call to a party. International nature journaling week. June one, 2025.”

After seeing a friend post about #InternationalNatureJournalingWeek, I decided I might give it a go on my own schedule since I got a late start.

This is for the “Describing the indescribable” prompt.
