'The Windsors' won't answer this question because they know the answer is yes.

Prince Andrew has even installed a mobile portacabin mansion for his staff - really slumming it.

Should be in JAIL.

Prince Andrew's removal from the line of succession is all well and good, but actually what we need is a proper prosecution and the end of the monarchy.

Andrew was arrested, but then released under investigation.

Let's hope the police actually charge Mandelson.

Out of court disposals

The police can issue an out of court disposal where a case is not in the public interest to charge. The police can issue:

1. Cautions: a formal warning for an offence; conditional cautions require offenders to meet certain conditions

2. Community Resolutions: where the accused agrees to undertake certain activities designed to rehabilitate, punish or provide reparation

3. Fixed Penalty Notices: where an accused can avoid court proceedings by paying a fine

Where a case is 'not in the public interest to charge', the police can issue an 'out of court disposal', such as a caution, community resolution, or Fixed Penalty Notice.

Any of these would be far less than satisfactory for something this serious & high profile.

Police investigations are closed when either:
1. there is insufficient evidence to charge
2. the police/CPS conclude that bringing a charge is not in the public interest
3. no offence has been committed.

What are the chances of no. 2 being used, do we think?

Comparison of Pre-charge Bail (aka Police Bail) and Release Under Investigation (RUI)

Pre-charge bail:
Must be authorised by a custody officer.
Suspects are required to report to the police.
The police can impose conditions on suspects as part of pre-charge bail that can restrict their movement and who they associate with.
Strict time limits. Pre-charge bail is initially set for three months. Police can internally authorise extensions of pre-charge bail for up to nine months.
Court approval required to extend pre-charge bail beyond nine months.

RUI:
No authorisation required.
Suspects may be asked to voluntarily attend further police interviews but are not required to.
No power to attach conditions.
No time limit.
No court oversight.

Why has Prince Andrew been released under investigation (RUI)?
Why hasn't he been charged or even released on pre-charge bail (police bail)?

This has the feel of being a public slap on the wrist & then being allowed to slowly disappear.

King Charles has "profound concern" over claims his brother shared confidential documents with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein while he served as UK trade envoy, and is 'ready to support' police.

Sounds like they're ready to chuck him under the bus.

Speaking after the release of the latest Epstein files, Starmer said: “Firstly, I have always approached this question with the victims of Epstein in mind. Epstein’s victims have to be the first priority. As for whether there should be an apology, that’s a matter for Andrew.
“But yes, in terms of testifying, I have always said anybody who has got information should be prepared to share that information in whatever form they are asked to do that. You can’t be victim-centred if you’re not prepared to do that.”

There have been a few news articles on Starmer saying Prince Andrew should testify (implying in fairly strong terms), but true to Starmer's form it's really a lot limper than that:
