David Ben-Gurion reads Israeli Declaration of Independence over Hatikvah, the national anthem
This is an excerpt of David Ben-Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister, reading from the Declaration of Independence on Friday, May 14, 1948 (5th of Iyyar, 5708) in Tel Aviv. YouTube user gidklio cut the selection and placed it over the rendition of the anthem and also laid the images together (though, with the exception of the flag photograph at the end, did not create the component images). This was originally mixed for a 2009 radio show, available here: https://archive.org/details/AchlaMuzikaII23April29.2009 The anthem is performed by the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. Here is an English translation of the excerpt of the Declaration: "This right is the natural right of the Jewish people to be masters of their own fate, like all other nations, in their own sovereign state. "Accordingly we, members of the people's council, representatives of the Jewish community of Eretz-Israel and of the Zionist movement, are here assembled on the day of the termination of the British Mandate over Eretz-Israel and, by virtue of our natural and historic right and on the strength of the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, hereby declare the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the State of Israel."
