I always find this exchange from the #Janowska trial sadly hilarious.
Klaiber (a lawyer defending Nazis) tries to nail Abraham Goldberg (a camp survivor) by asking for a specific date that a crime took place...and then referring to Christmas.
Oh, look. More AI slop: this time nonsense about the #Janowska camp.
Ask me how I know this is AI slop?
I am SO sick of the AI Slop accounts making up stuff AND inventing photographs.
And, of course, it eventually got to #Janowska.
On #ThisDayInHistory in 1943, the #Janowska #ConcentrationCamp near present-day #Lviv, #Ukraine, was liquidated and the last 6000 Jews killed. #Sonderaktion1005 slaves were forced to exhume mass graves & burn the corpses of the 40,000 people killed there in the #Nazi #Holocaust.
🧵 I'm listening to some #Janowska survivor testimony for the #VisualizingJanowska project and...it's always interesting to see how the interviewer affects the testimony.
This is from Leon Wells.
He's talking about his first arrival at the camp but the interviewer is more interested in religion.
Super excited to share my keynote Holocaust Memorial Lecture (24th edition).
Thanks again to @uofglasgow.bsky.social for inviting me!

Do YOU want to learn more about the #Janowska concentration camp?
I'd be happy to come talk to your school, organization, etc!!!
Here's another one.

Currently participating in a symposium about Holocaust archaeology in preparation for an investigation of #Janowska.
SO interesting what is possible with today's technology!
I am both humbled and honored to be giving the the 24th Annual Memorial Holocaust Lecture at the University of Glasgow on Jan 16.
My talk is entitled "Placing the Holocaust: Observations from the #Janowska Camp"

The Rohatyn Jewish Heritage project has created a rail map from Rohatyn to the Bełżec extermination center.
Which also makes it a great resource for the #VisualizingJanowska project as it shows the route from the #Janowska camp as well.

I'm translating testimony for my #VisualizingJanowska project while I am also reading people talking about how the Nazis weren't as barbaric as Hamas.
Well, literally just translated these descriptions of killings from the #Janowska camp.
Or, I could talk about those ordinary perpetrators in the #Janowska camp.
Like those who shot Jews as target practice.
Or made two Jews have sex before shooting them.
Or put Jews in barrels of water to watch them freeze to death.
Here it is, folks!
The #Janowska book has a cover.
Coming Summer 2024 from University of Nebraska Press!
Super excited.
Working to identify which #Janowska buildings were pre-war buildings.

🧵So, my lunchtime viewing has been "The Murderers Are Among Us" (1946) which was the first German feature film created after WWII.
I came across it as I was writing the #Janowska book. It's a very interesting film about Nazi crimes.

Reading my final #Janowska manuscript and it still boggles my mind that the family of the SS guy in charge of the body burning detail visited a Janowska survivor EIGHT times in person at home trying to get him to retract his denunciation.
