I think what surprised me about Japan was how scared the boys were of the girls in class. No one would sit next to each other! It was really funny!

Bonus pictures of my kids...it's been so long, they're all grown up now!

The pic above was at a rest stop near Yokohama, but at my in-laws' home, I wash all the trash before putting the pieces into the correct containers. We have about 15 (!) different types of recycling.

#Japanuary, Day 14: What surprised you about Japan?
The strict trash & recycling laws. You will get side-eye if you mess up while traveling. If you live in Japan FT, you'll be PENALIZED if you don't put the right trash out in the right bags on the right day in the right place.

I wasn’t prepared for how popular Shohei Ohtani is! Everywhere you look his face is promoting a new product ⚾️

What surprised you about Japan

I knew about leaving your shoes outside at home, but I didn't know it applied in clothes shops too. I walked into a changing cubicle and within seconds a shop assistant rushed over and started shouting at me and pointing at my feet. Freaked me out!

#Japanuary25D14 What surprised you about Japan:
How large & extensive the stations are, with miles of underground tunnels. It still amazes me sometimes how far you can walk underground- or when you discover that places are connected without going outside.

What surprised me most about Japan? That would be the care and attention of its citizens. Appreciation and respect is ingrained everywhere you go. Its statues, murals, shrines and even electronics are maintained with such care, its really inspiring! #Japanuary25d14 #Japanuary25 #Japanuary

#japanuary25d14 What surprised you in Japan
I was surprised by the amount of green spaces even in a busy city like Tokyo. From gardens on rooftops like Meguro Sky garden, to the grounds of Meiji Shrine or
Inokashira park, I enjoyed them all.

Day 14: What surprised you

Honestly, it was how pedestrian friendly everything is! Everyone tells you how much you'll walk, and it's still surprising how much you can do just on foot. Our first day we enjoyed a walk from Meiji shrine to Takeshita Street

What surprised me about Japan is how easy it is to get great pictures from Shinkansen. Unless you are in a tunnel or at night, you get no reflection.

@cakeswithfaces.bsky.social's Japanuary: "What surprised you in Japan?" Had just sat down on Shichirigahama beach to enjoy a nice bento lunch when a whacking huge sea eagle swooped down and stole it. Didn't see the warning signs until afterwards! #Japanuary25d14 #Japan #Kamakura

Vending machines are everywhere! And nobody smashes them to steal the contents! As would happen in my country.
