Der Nürnberger Publikumsliebling Gaines Hall spielt im Musical „La Cage aux Folles“ den Travestiestar Zaza, auch Albin genannt. Das Musical von Jerry Herman und Harvey Fierstein spielt in den 70ern an der Cote d’Azur und ist vor allem durch den Hit „I am what I am“ bekannt. Ich hatte das Stück noch nie ganz gesehen, eine Neuinszenierung von Melissa King wartet mit ein paar dezenten, aber auch mit ein paar drastischen Bühnenelementen von Stephan Prattes auf. Dies fängt schon bei der Ausgestaltung des Hintergrunds an, der eine Tapete im 70er Jahre Stil dekoriert mit Regenbogen-Herzen, Herzen und Geschlechtsteilen. Ein solche Dekor hätte es damals sicher nicht gegeben. Es wiederholt sich aber auch auf den Bademänteln von Albin oder dem Anzug von George. Jürgen Grimm spielt flott auf, gesungen und gesprochen wird in Deutsch. Jetzt ist das Musical immer in Gefahr zu einer Art Coney Island Circus Sideshow zu werden, in der Homosexuellen noch zusätzlich mit Klischees stigmatisiert werden. Es gelingt hier bei allem Voyeurismus doch ein sehr warmherziger Blick in das Show-Business, was das Nürnberger Publikum mit einem vollen Haus belohnte.
