The puddle holds a jovial reflection: one tricked to master memories of how to make a happy face; one taught to never betray the hermetic secrets of the heart unbound. Those secrets carry thoughts of personality inside this liar’s mask, as the costume party continues and the puddle becomes a mirror inside a house I’ll never understand. As the day becomes itself again, but night this time, tomorrow this time, morning this time: a thousand new ways to see the same face I’ll never quite belong to. The face I’ll never quite be wrong to. The face I’ll never quite remember, beyond the feeling it must project. I could protect it, could comply more to the bore, but this soul recalls the sky saved room for one more. One more. One more actualized being, held inside this shell, this face, this mask. That truer self, that one I return to in mind, and will one day, find again, away from reflection’s grasp...
