Gruesome Usakos murders provoke debate on ‘neglect’ boys face
The Blue Project has condemned the murders of six members of a family at Usakos.
In a statement released on Friday they argued that the killings were an urgent sign for communities across the nation to change their treatment of boys.
“How long will we act overly concerned when acts of this kind happen in our respective communities? What more has to happen? Who has to be harmed or murdered again for us to realise that we need to rise up collectively and take care of our sons?” the project’s funder, Yozikee Mujoro, asks.
“I firmly believe this is certainly not something committed out of intention, but it is rather a cry for help of fellow young men in this country. . . It’s time to cherish, motivate and love them in every way possible, if we are to tackle some of these issues at hand honestly. We as young men simply want to feel what it means to belong to society and be accepted even with the flaws we carry,” The Blue Project alumnus Richard Nghilalulwa says.
The Blue Project is an organisation aimed at mentoring and empowering young men in Namibia.
