Snow in Summer is one of our favourite dishes.
A baked #gingerbread base of almonds, sugar and breadcrumbs, with sweet creamy 'snow' on top.
See this and much more at our #Tudor Midsummer event

A quick 30 seconds of me sewing some quires before the day started at the recent Tudor May Day event at Kentwell Hall.

Canterbury Tales was what I was working on.
I bought a #facsimile and did the initial prep at home of unbinding it from its modern cover.
Then, at #kentwell, I pierced the stitching holes, sewed it back together, and glued the spine. Quite a feat!

The #Tudor year at #Kentwell Hall is 1536, & I've been looking for suitable musical images.
This detail from a #maiolica jug, shows a #musican playing an early #violin or #liradabraccio (hard to tell which when there are no strings shown), from a music book.

The #Kentwell #Tudoryear has been announced and it’s 1536, which is good news for any #WolfHall fans hoping to visit #Tudor England. Kentwell is as near as you’ll get to time travel: large scale #reenactment event over an entire manor.

Sounds like Good Friday will be an excellent day to visit #kentwell in 2025 if you are in or near #Suffolk and wanting to timetravel to #16thc.

Wouldn’t #1509 be amazing! The gowns would get slimmer, the gable hoods longer, and the historical irony richer as we praised our new young king #HenryViii and anticipated many princes from his beautiful Spanish wife!

#Histfic writers tend to do this thinking alone but a joy of #reenactment is that it is a social activity: the build up to the year’s events involves sharing research, bouncing ideas off each other, planning, making….and once we know know the #tudoryear we can start!

Then there all the local specifics: what is the harvest like, who owns the manor, and events like the time when #QueenElizabethI visited Melford….and stayed at the OTHER house in the village, built by successful son of a #Kentwell steward! #reenactment

We are coming up to the time of year when #Kentwell Hall decides which #Tudoryear it is going to make us all time travel to.
Ruffs or gable hoods? A #Shakespeare year or a #WolfHall year?
