Hello.
I should admit that the latest releases by Nintendo, The Pokemon
Company and Game Freak have prompted me to make this clarification...
Well, actually, a lot of clarifications, including ones that go all the way back to the beginning of the franchise. I have to indicate how Pokemon in my art deviate in their biology, behavior, and lore from the way how they're portayed in... well, you know, the other stuff by these other authors. Several people have assumed the wrong things about my depictions of Pokemon, believing they work the same way. They don't. So I have to show you this.
This one might be obvious, but, there's no such thing as Pokemon Training.
That's condemned, because Pokemon are treated just like humans are.
Pokemon are sentient, as smart as humans, and whenever they interact with humans, it's just like when humans meet other humans.
Pokeballs don't exist. Any pokemon that resembles a pokeball is said to
coincidentally resemble a gashapon capsule instead.
On the other hand, humans know how to use magic and weapons, so they can do a good job defending themselves the same way Pokemon do.
Also, Pokemon don't say only their own name, because their names
semantically originate from their etymological origin, which is often developedsocially based on the characteristics of each species. Pokemon speak the same way that humans speak.
Ty the Celebi says "So, what happened with the brown shirt and red overalls?"
Mario says "The brown shirt got-a lost!"
Now then, as for how Pokemon change forms during their lives.
In here, it's not called "Evolution", and instead it's "changing phenotypes".
Phenotypes work like phenotypes in real life. A phenotype is
"a manifestation of the visible traits of an organism that is created
from the interaction of their genotype and the environment".
A genotype is the genetic makeup of a single individual.
A line of phenotypes, for example, Sewaddle to Leavanny, is a single species of Pokemon that can change phenotypes. Sewaddle is a phenotype, Swadloon is another, and Leavanny is another one.
A single Sewaddle can become a Swadloon, then become a Leavanny and still keep their genotype intact.
There's a more apparent difference, which is that there are multiple branches of phenotypes that a Pokemon can develop through.
This is possible on way more Pokemon than what other authors have established.
A Pokemon can change from a lower phenotype to a higher one.
But, it can also change from a higher to a lower one. In a similar
fashion to how one can work out to get bigger muscles and then
lose them after periods of inactivity and caloric deficits.
It is also possible for a Pokemon to change phenotypes "sideways" to another phenotype of the same strength.
If an Eevee regrets turning into a Vaporeon, they can become an Umbreon or a Sylveon if they put in the effort.
"Mega Evolutions" are also just your good old standard phenotypes.
There's no fundamental difference between them and the other phenotypes
that were shown before. A "Mega Phenotype" is still part of the same genotype
of the Pokemon that changes into it. Which means, there are no changes in DNA.
There's also no "double helix"-like thing that appears when it happens.
"Mega Phenotypes" don't require other species or special stones to trigger them,
since it's just caused by the same environmental changes that manifest other
phenotypes. "Mega Phenotypes" don't cause pain nor psychological alterations
to those who manifest them. So there's no such thing as a "Rogue mega".
Like other phenotypes, there can be hundreds or even thousands of
Mega Phenotypes for each single Pokemon. So one doesn't have to worry
about "getting an ugly one", it can be changed. It's all good.
And just like other phenotypes, a Pokemon can be in a Mega Phenotype for
as long as possible, and can leave it if possible. So a Pokemon can be "mega"
for minutes, hours, or even years.
"Mega Stones" are just marbles with no relation to Mega Phenotypes.
In fact, no one calls them "Mega Stones", they just call them marbles.
Dynamax doesn't exist.
Normal "Macro", without any red clouds or effects exists only when
the age rating, context, or content warnings allow for it.
Gigantamax doesn't exist either, but there are some phenotypes that
coincidentally slightly resemble Gigantamax forms without any of the red effects,
and without any of the extra size. They're just normal sized.
Alpha Pokemon don't have red glowing eyes nor are more aggressive than
non-Alpha Pokemon. So they're just big Pokemon.
Clauncher and Clawlitzer have symmetrical arms.
The legs of a Lucario don't look like pants, they can take their pants off.
Buizel and Floatzel don't naturally have floaties, they can take them off.
Zygarde's 10% form is not a dog, and doesn't have a weird thing behind.
Stufful doesn't have a weird thing behind either.
Dittos can change the appearance of their faces.
Most fossil Pokemon were revived over a millenium ago, so there
have been generations of them living alongside present Pokemon.
The Galar fossils were never made. Instead the non-chimeric
complete fossils of these Pokemon were brought to life.
All Past Paradox Pokemon are actually from the present,
and are regional variants of already existing present Pokemon.
The Past Paradox versions of Suicune, Entei and Raikou don't exist.
All Future Paradox Pokemon are fictional. They don't exist.
The only exception is Miraidon, which exists in the present either
as armor for Cyclizar, or as a mechanical recreation of Cyclizar.
Miraidon is divorced from the Paradox Pokemon lore.
There is a flesh version of Iron Valiant in the present, called Galaliant.
These are all the major deviations I think should be pointed out.
The purpose of this list isn't to get upset at what happens with Pokemon.
But, instead to give myself the freedom to draw Pokemon and give them lore
in a personalized way where I can express myself without boundaries.
I'm not being hired to do this. It's not a licensed product. So there are
no guidelines to worry about. I don't think it's wrong to deviate
when you're drawing for fun and not as part of a license.
As long as you're happy, you're good to go.
